DECADES OF SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY

Great Lakes Community Action Partnership is a community action agency, a type of non-profit created in the 1960s to fight poverty. Founded in 1965, GLCAP has anti-poverty efforts that range from childcare and education, job-training and placement, senior citizen support, and veteran support. GLCAP's focus in northwest Ohio has improved the lives of families for over half a century, and BLDG is proud to join the cause in the 21st century.

DIGNITY FOR THOSE WHO SERVED

BLDG identified GLCAP as a leading local organization in the effort to reintegrate those who have bravely performed military service and are struggling. GLCAP conducts a rigorous 60-day program that identifies a veteran's needs, assists them with job training and placement, and then assists them in applying and paying for permanent housing. GLCAP remains invested with its program participants, providing follow-up case management to ensure veterans have every chance at success.

A TRUE WIN-WIN OUTCOME

BLDG's investment at Ashland Manor has benefitted greatly from its outreach to GLCAP: veterans, who were previously living outdoors or with family, find a safe and secure home that benefits from excellent transit to and from jobs. GLCAP guarantees the first year of rent, at full asking market rates. The full-time social services coordinator that BLDG funds with federal grants serves as a liaison with GLCAP's case workers, and serves as a second set of eyes. Applicants have been pre-screened to fit within BLDG's safety selection criteria.
